Beauty Quest, A Model's Journey: The Book By Tonya Ruiz In the first part of my book, Beauty Quest, A Model's Journey, I share about the fashion world and the events that brought me to a personal relationship with Jesus. In the second part, titled Our Journey, I write about the struggles women face because of the media's impossible standard of beauty. I address: aging, retouched photos, plastic surgery, dieting, modesty, and God's idea of beauty. I also answer the question, "Should I let my daughter go into modeling?"
Book Introduction: Many women are being seduced into believing that looking like a cover girl will make them happy. Take it from me. It will not! With My "California girl" good looks and the backing of many top modeling agents, including Eileen Ford, I was granted every opportunity to become a supermodel. Because of my internal personal struggles and failures, the inability to keep my body looking flawless, and a self-destructive search to fill an emptiness in my life--I was incapable of maintaining my success. Then, through the miracle of God's saving grace, my emptiness was filled to overflowing the night I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior! Even as a Christian it is difficult not to be affected by the constant bombardment of the world's idea of beauty from television, magazines, movies, and billboards. I still wish my thighs were thinner, that the traitorous lines would disappear from my forehead, and fondly remember the days when my stomach did not lie next to me when I slept on my side. In the fashion world's eye we are not physically perfect, but God is not concerned with outer beauty--He looks at our hearts. It is my prayer that while you read about my personal journey through the modeling industry you will see the folly of my quest for perfection. Then, we will journey together on the age-old quest for beauty where you will discover God's idea of a beautiful woman--one made in His likeness and image. You!
